Stress ECG

When it comes to cardiology, one possible diagnostic test is a stress ECG, which observes how the heart reacts to exercise when the body needs more oxygen. As a result of physical activity, the heart’s need for oxygen increases, so during insufficient circulation, a relative lack of oxygen develops, which can also be seen in the form of ECG abnormalities. It can be used to detect coronary artery disease and arrhythmias.

During a stress ECG examination, electrodes are placed on the chest and the change is monitored with a blood pressure monitor on the arm, while the patient is most often cycling or running. Before the test, the doctor determines the heart rate to be reached per minute and gradually loads the patient. The examination lasts until the subject’s heart rate reaches the target number, and then the patient is observed until the heart rate returns to normal after exercise.
