Regular measurement of blood pressure is important because high blood pressure doesn\u2019t have noticeable symptoms for a long time. It is often the case that only complications (heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, etc.) draw attention to the problem.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid shape_divider_top-none shape_divider_bottom-none\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12 sc_layouts_column_icons_position_left\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h2 style=\"color: #0e1b8d;text-align: left\" class=\"vc_custom_heading\" >What is high blood pressure (Hypertension)?<\/h2>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls. Hypertension means that the walls of the arteries are receiving too much pressure repeatedly.<\/p>\n<p>Blood pressure is written as two numbers such as 118\/70 mm. The top number is the pressure when the heart beats. It can develop as a result of environmental or genetic factors and it may be also related to poor nutrition, lack of physical activity and obesity.<\/p>\n<p><b>Secondary hypertension<\/b><\/p>\n<p>It can be a side effect of certain types of medications.<\/p>\n<p><b>Other triggers:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kidney disease, kidney tumour, kidney failure<\/li>\n<li>Disorders of the adrenal gland\u00a0such as Cushing\u2019s syndrome when there is an abnormally high level of cortisol in the body<\/li>\n<li>Sleep apnea\u00a0(sleep disorder with breathing pauses)<\/li>\n<li>Preeclampsia\u00a0(rare disorder of pregnancy)<\/li>\n<li>Thyroid and parathyroid problems<\/li>\n<li>Coarctation of the aorta\u00a0(birth defection when the aorta is narrowed)<\/li>\n<li>Obesity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid shape_divider_top-none shape_divider_bottom-none\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12 sc_layouts_column_icons_position_left\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h2 style=\"color: #0e1b8d;text-align: left\" class=\"vc_custom_heading\" >What are the symptoms of Hypertension?<\/h2>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>In most cases there are no symptoms at all for a long time. It is very important to recognize the disease at an early stage in order to prevent complications. After hypertonia was diagnosed, it is the task of the physician to clarify the types (primary or secondary hypertension) and the causes of high blood pressure. In case of secondary hypertension it is also necessary to treat the background disease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One blood pressure reading is not enough to diagnose hypertension. The general practitioner will take several readings over a set period in order to set up an accurate diagnosis.
