TSH is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland that increases thyroid hormone production (FT3 \u2013 triiodothyronine and FT4 \u2013 thyroxine) and promotes iodine absorption.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid shape_divider_top-none shape_divider_bottom-none\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-6 sc_layouts_column_icons_position_left\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h2 style=\"text-align: left\" class=\"vc_custom_heading\" >What does the test show?<\/h2>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When FT3 and FT4 are reduced, TSH is increased, while increased FT3 and FT4 decrease TSH production. Measurement of TSH levels is a screening test to detect hyper- and hypothyroidism.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left\" class=\"vc_custom_heading\" >When is it recommended to have the test?<\/h2>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The test is recommended if the patient has symptoms suggestive of thyroid problems.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Symptoms of hyperthyroidism:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Anxiety and mood swings<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Irritability<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Weakness in the arms and legs<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sleep problems<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hand tremors<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sweating<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Low heat tolerance<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: the patient has an overactive thyroid. High TSH levels may indicate an underactive thyroid.
